Drawn with watercolor pencils (burnished not painted) On A3 cartridge paper. Time: about a month and a half (2 to 4 hours a day)
Art is not supposed to be confined by its past. Every person should be free to find their own style. Old-school or otherwise, a style should not determine what is art. It’s like saying “whose art is more arty?”. I don’t care if you hold your pencil with your toes and draw on the ceiling, if that’s your vibe you should be free to do so.
Too many artists take a classical high ground where pencils are concerned. It’s the: “If you don’t crosshatch, you’re doing it wrong” mentality…why? Because that’s how Da Vinci did it? Forgive me but as fabulous as the man was I’m not taking lessons from the dude that was too lazy to prime his canvasses. He probably drew crosshatch because he was too lazy to shade. I’m sure some snooty person kept telling him how to do things and he would have flipped them the bird and said “Dude, this is how I do my shit, if you don’t like it GTFO” (For those not meme inclined that means: Get The F*ck Out). I think more artists should learn from the intention behind a style than idolizing its technical aspects.
Take Picasso for example. He had classical training and painted pretty (and boring) landscapes etc. Until one magical day when he said “stuff this”…and that conversation most likely went a little something like this: IMPORTANT NOTICE: I do not do drugs or encourage the use thereof. This is just a colourful explanation of my opinion. *after smoking a spliff and a few shots of Absinth* Picasso: “ Dudes, dudes…dudes wait – I have a fabulous thought! I…am…toootally going to paint pointy people! Yeah man. That’ll piss ‘em off. Oh, oh and I’ll give chicks like 3 boobs and shit. It’ll be EPIC!”
Back then the art community thought he was a douche but now we hail him and others like him as pioneers. I would love to have been a fly on the wall between the elitists the first time they observed Tristan Tsarra’s creations. My point is this:
THERE IS NO WRONG WAY, THERE IS ONLY YOUR WAY.
ART – do it the way you like it. Don’t let other people spoil your fun!

One tiny other notice - My comments are meant to be humorous. I (of all people) do not discriminate against any form of art or artist. If you thought that, I urge you to read it again before sending me negative comments. Thank you.
